Anhydrous Lanolin News

The Introduction of Lanolin

Lanolin is a natural oil material secreted from sheep’s sebaceous gland and sticking to wool. It can be recycled from the waste water washing the wool. The recycling methods include: centrifuge method, chemical coagulation method, acid hydrolysis method and foam separation method.
There are still a lot of impurities in the recycled crude lanolin. It should be further refined. The refined lanolin is light yellow paste, widely used in medical industry and cosmetics. If further reacting it with other materials, lanolin derivatives can be made and used in all kinds of high grade cosmetics, which largely increased the value of lanolin.
The lanolin content in the waste water poured from our textile industry every year is about twenty thousand metric tons. Despite some that has been recycled, most of them were poured into the sea. It not only pollutes the environment, but wastes resources as well.
In recent years, our country process 120-140 thousand of wool each year. The lanolin content is about ten thousand metric tons. Because of the backward recycling process of our country, the quality of lanolin is not so good, which restricts the application of domestic lanolin BP. The refined lanolin of our country each year is no more than 500MT. That’s why most cosmetic producers have to spend more money purchasing lanolin from abroad every year. Lanolin’s price in the international market is rising because more and more people have noticed the importance to use natural material as the raw material of cosmetics. Our country should also attach high importance to the recycle and use of lanolin.
